More than 100 volunteers worked to provide more than 300 Thanksgiving dinners at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church's annual community dinner.

The trustees of Mariners Hospital rejected a private company's offer to build and operate a new Mariners in exchange for a 25-year lease.

Science students from all over the country were using the Keys reef as a living classroom. Seacamp, along with Newfound Harbor Marine Institute, provided facilities on Big Pine Key.


President John F. Kennedy, the joint chiefs of staff and Florida Gov. Farris Bryant made a whirlwind trip through Key West to review the military units that took part in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Pvt. Renaldo O. Valdez was attending the Basic Army Administration Course to train for duty as a clerk.
