Changes coming with new clerk
Institutional knowledge leaves with employees

An exodus has begun at the Monroe County Clerk's Office following the election of Amy Heavilin, including the firing of a 21-year top-level administrator.

About a half-dozen top executives, including the chief internal auditor, have submitted resignation or retirement letters following Heavilin's election, and those positions will have to be filled in the coming months. Some...

Hey Stuart.............

Give it up.. You got fewer votes than most write-in candidates.. Your complaint on the Hatch Act went nowhere. OSC cleared her of any wrongdoing.. Face it you are loser and everything you touch goes limp.. Now if you want to criticize, be my guest, just keep it factual.. I know, I know, being constrained by truth means it likely won't be as interesting..

What is it with this place?

What is it with this place?

clerk of court

its to early to tell how this will play out, nobody should be fired for doing their job the right way after 21 years, they will all be missed but dannys main girl jacque donohue will really be missed the most, she is the most liked and respected person in the clerk of courts office just ask her employees

New Clerk

Her former employees at the Sheriff's Office didn't celebrate for her because she won...they celebrated for themselves because she was leaving. The misery was palpable in that office on a daily basis, with employees crying because of the verbal abuse. I feel sorry for those in the clerk's office who now have to deal with it.

lol what a farce

Does it escape the masses that Amy Heavilin violated the law and was NOT qualified to be on the ballot? When will the law breaking republican club handle their law breaker? Heavilin needs to step aside and a special election needs to be held to elect a non law breaking qualified candidate. This county is so corrupt. Where is are elections officials and why are they NOT going their job? Some one needs to takes this unqualified law breaker Heavilin to task for pulling a quick one over on the tax payers?

What laws? Explain please.

What laws? Explain please.

Federal laws broken by Heavilin... YES Its TRUE

George, check out the Keys News Story that announced to the community that Heavilin broke the law @ http://keysnews.com/node/43505 Also read the federal law of the Hatch Act. Under the Federal Law Prohibited Activities For State and Local Employees. • May NOT be a candidate for public office in a partisan election (she ran as a Republican) • May NOT use official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the results of an election or a nomination for office (she announced at every forum what she did and her 9 perfect audit record duh) • May NOT directly or indirectly coerce contributions from subordinates in support of a political party or candidate (She asked co-workers to give her their vacation time to aid her being off work for her campaign and ask for contributions as well) CAUTION: An employee’s conduct is also subject to the laws of the state and the regulations of the employing agency. Prohibitions of the Hatch Act are NOT affected by state or local laws. (SEE: Title 5 of the United States Code, Sections 1501-1508 and Title 5 of the Code of Federal Regulations part 151) Those wishing to further complain that a unqualified FEDERAL LAW BREAKING Candidate is being seated in our county even though Heavilin is disqualified per federal law may get answers to specific questions regarding political activity by calling OSC at 800-85-HATCH (854-2824) or 202-254-3650. You may also file a compliant with the OSC. Its your COUNTY People, do you want a law breaker to run the county money while you look the other way or are you going to make Heavilin accountable for her illegal actions? Heavilin has proved she has no integrity or she would have already stepped down. Heavilin yes, BROKE the LAW to WIN the Campaign. As to her denial of knowledge over the Federal law, lets remember IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE! Requests for written advisories may be made to the: U. S. Office of Special Counsel 1730 M Street, NW Suite 218 Washington, DC 20036 E-mail: hatchact@osc.gov Homepage: http://www.osc.gov

This will get Ugly

This situation will real ugly soon. There are already Lawyers involved. No wonder poor Mr Kohlage went to the hospital. The Bubba system is alive and well in Monroe County.

Why?

Why would you fire someone with 21 years of experience in a position that has been kept out of the media & without problems for all of these years. Danny ran a tight ship and you never heard of problems within his regime. It just looks really bad on Amy to do this right off the bat. And by the way, people aren't resistant to change, but the way the change happens. Instead of coming in like a bull in a china shop, why not talk to each employee and see what their perspective is. The only good resignation was Jackie Donahue. She is the rudest person in the world and is so mean to her employees. I voted for Amy, but I'm very disappointed in her actions. Amy, take note - you are now an elected official. Screw up and you're out the door in a few years - people don't forget.

Disgusting

Yet another elected official who owes her friends jobs. Disgusting!

Hire your friends

Guess , since it works in Washington, it should work here. Hope we have better results locally than we have endured on a national level.

Office ran just fine for all

Office ran just fine for all these years with these employees that were fired or resigned. To hire her friend and campaign manager is disgusting. Amy , you are a fraud.

Good luck to the remaining

Good luck to the remaining employees. Heavelin has no people skills and did her best to destroy morale in her department at the Sheriff's Office. She was kept in check by more reasonable people above her there, but now she's in charge. This won't be pretty.
