'Copter lands on cruise ship

A Coast Guard helicopter landed on a cruise ship to pick up a 43-year-old passenger from a Liberty of the Seas cruise ship early Friday off Islamorada, agency spokesman Lt. Jay Hagwood said.

The man reportedly was suffering from a hernia. The helicopter rescuers had planned to hoist the man on a lift, but he was too heavy, according to Hagwood.

Five-foot seas and 23-knot winds made a boat rescue unfeasible, he added. The man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. No information on his condition was available.
