Keys bridges showing their age

Of the 26 county-owned bridges, many need major work costing millions

There is no section of roadway in the Florida Keys more important to maintain than bridges. Any Keys commute requires the use of a bridge.

However, Keys bridges are not getting any younger. All of the 26 county-owned structures were built between 1955 and 1975 and have a life span of about 50 years. Their half-century anniversaries are coming up, and major work is needed for...

Well, come on Chamber of Commerce and Southernmost Republicans, get busy. You need bridges for your tourists to drive down? Get moving and build it. You don't need no stinken Government money, right? Your not "takers", right? What? You didn't build that? Hmmm. The hypocrisy is stunning.

Infrastructure Funding

The Keys are a national treasure. The could be federal funding for infrastructure improvements. Oh wait, we need to extend tax cuts to the wealthy, so wasteful spending on infrastructure will have to wait until the bridges fall down!

The eastbound approach to the US1 Boca Chica bridge has sunk down far enough that when you hit it at 55mph you are nearly launched airborne.

Channel 10 did a report on Boca Chica bridge

years ago. It needed major repairs then and the County knew it back then. It is on the States top ten needing work. The boulevard project and a big box store won't be worth any effort without any bridge,
