Sheriff's Medal

Test

Detention Deputy Garrett Test, left, has been awarded the Sheriff's Medal. While on vacation out of state, he saved a man's life after the man was involved in a serious traffic crash. Under harrowing circumstances, he pulled the injured man from a smoking car, which had rolled into a ravine. The man, who was having seizures after the accident, only spoke Spanish and could not communicate with rescuers. Deputy Test, who speaks some Spanish, was able to help the man communicate about his injuries.

Castellon, O'Connell, Champagne, O'Dea, Guerra

Sheriff Bob Peryam honored employees for their years of service and congratulated the Sheriff's Office employees of the third quarter 2012. Sheriff's Commendations

Valdes, Rodriguez

Sheriff Peryam and Sheriff-elect Ramsay commended Deputies Lazaro Valdes, center left, and Freddy Rodriguez who went above and beyond in their efforts to assist a homeless man with obtaining help and services he needs. Sheriff Peryam spoke about their efforts: "This is true community policing and I'm proud of these two for working so hard to help this man."

Easter Seals

From left are the Hayes sisters: Maddie, 16, Molly, 17, and Megan, 20, whose adoptive parents are Diane and Matt Hayes. Meghan has Down syndrome and is a leukemia survivor. Molly has autism, as does Maddie who also suffers from a seizure disorder. Originally from New York, the Hayes family has encountered a beacon of hope in the Keys: Easter Seals Florida provides services to children, adults and veterans with disabilities and special needs, along with their caregivers. A highlight of Easter Seals Florida for the girls is a week-long trip to Camp Challenge, where they have joined other kids and teenagers with special needs in an outdoor adventure setting since 2003. This year, the three sisters have been named official ambassadors for the organization.
