Glynn Archer Elementary

Scholastic Book Fair up and running

Parents and students are welcome to shop at the Scholastic Book Fair, which is now open from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, through Dec. 11, in the Library Media Center at Glynn Archer Elementary School. Readers may choose from a large selection of books, starting at $4, as well as games, posters and school supplies. Other community members can arrange to shop at the Book Fair by calling Mrs. Riley at 305-293-1600, ext. 64306.

In other Glynn Archer news, Mrs. Frazier's third-grade class won the Outback Steakhouse's annual pumpkin-decorating contest.

Their entry, "Angry Birds," received the most votes. The class is now looking forward to a field trip to the restaurant for lunch.

Switlik's Readathon a success

Stanley Switlik's Elementary School's annual schoolwide Readathon took place on Nov. 16.

The event is meant to foster and enhance the love of reading. It's also the only schoolwide fundraiser dedicated entirely to classrooms, to support student learning. All the money collected supports Switlik's schoolwide literacy efforts, and allows teachers to purchase needed materials and resources for enhancing each and every child's education. For more information on the program, call reading coach Sarah Morton at 305-289-2490, ext. 59360.
