BOULEVARD PROJECT UPDATE NOV. 29-DEC. 6

Planned this week:

Sewer, water line installation, decontamination, drainage system work. No work from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2.

Dec. 5: Day 226 of 820

Start date: April 23, 2012

End date: Aug. 20, 2014

Percent complete: 27%

Holiday/rain days: 26

Storm days: 2

Nighttime work: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. at Sigsbee Base entrance through Dec. 10

This week's FAQ:

Why aren't they working 24/7?

The contract does not require it; the project was not advertised or bid on as a 24/7 undertaking, so such additional costs are not included. The majority of the subcontractors are working five days or more a week, and the main contractor, the de Moya Group, is working 65 hours a week. The contamination contractor is working a six-day, 60-hour week.

The contractor could add crews to work more hours, but lighting and safety issues, and impacts to hotels, businesses and homes would come into play. Ultimately, the contractor is bound by contract to complete the work by the specified time.
