County wants to form committee
Money from oil spill will most likely trickle down to municipalities and groups

Monroe County stands to receive $5.8 million to $23.2 million in fines levied on BP from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, according to estimates released Tuesday during the commission's first public meeting.

Commissioners met to discuss the federal legislation set up to allocate the money, called the Restore Act, and propose setting up a committee to make recommendations on...

This $$$

This money belongs to science research, to reef relief, to all groups working to save the reef and other creatures from the damages incurred by these microbes they released. The money should go to the FCCC's marine biology department, etc. How do you volunteer to be on this committee? I have no alegences or alliances with ANYONE to worry about corruption and would LOVE to help see that these funds are used for ecological necessities first and foremost. The individuals hurt by the spill have recieved their monies, and most were well over paid, these monies should not go to individuals or business's or governmental business like the sewer project. BP's neglectful and destructive catasrophe had not a thing to do with this. The damage from this has yet to be fully recognized and this money can not be squandered when we are unsure what awaits us from this.

Shameful.

Any monies from any BP settlements should go to residents and businesses of the Gulf Coast, those truly harmed by the spill.

To even consider giving BP money to the TDC to promote FatFest shows the true character of the charlatans who represent us in Monroe County.

Everyone has their hand out.

As my subject line reads... I have seen people receive money that was not due to them. This is just egregious. The fraud here is rampant-

Fines and not damages.

It is important to understand that there is a difference.

Oh yeah,

like BP feels bad about taking YOUR money.

What to do with the money....should be easy.....

Dump all of the BP money....into the BADLY NEEDED county wide SEWER SYSTEM. Done.

Forget it, they're not

Forget it, they're not listening.

The sewer system was not damaged by the bad press that went

with the oil spill. Why should money go into a program that was not damaged?

Nothing was harmed here by

Nothing was harmed here by the spill. If your are going after greed and graft at least filter it into the schools that are still suffering from the economic crash.
