Trinity Presbyterian Church, 717 Simonton St., celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special program at 3 p.m. with speaker Elder Brenda Miller.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 people after a drug sting in the Upper Keys. Many of the arrests were construction workers living in the Keys and working in South Florida repairing storm damage from Hurricane Andrew.

Frank Romano, founder and president of Key West Aloe Inc., received the Margo Golan Community Service Award from the Key West Hotel and Motel Association.


City Electric System reported that electricity use was up, with peak-load periods higher then ever with a revenue of $260,900 for November.

The century's worst cold wave blasted Florida and Key West, with a low temperature of 46 degrees, a record for the date and the coldest in the month of December in 28 years.

Homer Kapus remodeled and redecorated the old Betty's Restaurant on Big Pine Key and reopened as Betty's Lobster House.
