State land planners gave the county a Christmas present by allowing it extra time to finish revising the land use plan.

The 100-plus members of the Key West Rotary Club ended its 76th year of service to the community.

The Marriott Casa Marina Flagler's Restaurant had a New Year's special of dinner with champagne and music by Coffee Butler and His Cups for $52.95 per person.


City offices were opened in the new City Hall, at Angela Street on the corner of Simonton Street. The Fire and Police departments had not moved to the new building because the communication system was not complete.

George Mira, Key West native and university of Miami quarterback, was voted Florida's best amateur athlete for 1962 by the Florida Sports Writers Association.

Clarence U. Allshouse, chief planned for the Ship Department of the Naval Station, retired after 30 years of federal service.
