Principal remembered as a leader
Loss felt by many; students remember Stewart with candlelight vigil

Adri Stewart was the kind of principal who ate lunch with her students and was planning yet another field trip for the small charter high school in Key West.

In October, she took the teens to Miami, where she threw out the first pitch at a Miami Marlins game. Stewart was putting together a trip to Disney World when she ended her life the day after Christmas by turnin...

have some compassion

Its easy to judge others, please have a modicum of decency and respect toward this tragic situation. I knew Ms. Stewart as did the students, she made a difference for them and her personal struggles were never part of the equation. I feel great loss and sadness that none of us had even the slightest inkling that she was suffering. People whom commit suicide are not of a sound mind at that particular point in time, just as mental illness is an invisible tormentor to the outside world, so are suicidal thoughts. Please be thoughtful when posting here -the students read these and they loved and respected her, let's leave it at that. Wishing all the compassion to show those we love all that they mean to us -every day.

Thank you

for your post. We must all remember even though we are having a bad day, someone could be having a worse one. Be kind.

Suicide is not the answer.

Adri drove the 4 hours to Broward to commit suicide. The story we haven't heard is 'why?'. Revenge? Depression? Finances? Relationships? She had lots of time to think. Lots of training in therapy and psychology. Yet she chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem, knowing precisely the what the effects of her actions would be. Why? Incredibly sad, but she's the perpetrator, not the victim. The victims are her family, her school, her students, and her community. Those in positions of responsibility such as hers must be held to a higher standard. They know better. They're trained. The article saying how she was "putting together a trip to Disney World" when she ended her life should send a chill down the spine of any parent. That was obviously not the trip she was planning. The fact that someone so mentally ill was placed in charge of a school is terrifying. Were there any signs? Were they ignored? Is there anything anyone could have done to change the outcome? Peace to those left behind.

I agree with all you wrote. Suicide is something the selfish

I agree with all you wrote. Suicide is something the selfish do. Did she stop to think of her three kids? Of all the kids at the school who counted on her? You're absolutely right - she chose a selfish and permanent solution to a temporary problem. Now those she left behind are left to wonder if they had a hand in this, if they could've done something to change things, if they could've seen a sign. I rarely have sympathy for one who commits suicide.

Makes any reasonable person question...

Are some among us still suggesting that we arm every principal with a semi-automatic weapon as a security measure?

Tragic News, but it must be remembered...

An educational mevement is based on principles, not personalities.
