$5M 'takings' case may cost more

A potential $5 million judgement is not the only financial woe tied to the Galleon Bay takings lawsuit.

Monroe County has spent $857,000 defending the Galleon Bay lawsuit, which dates back to 2002. The vast majority of the money, $822,000, was spent on outside counsel. The first outside firm to litigate the case was Hugh Morgan and Jim Hendrick, according to County Attorney...

Galleon Bay/NNK make Hickory & Vandenberg look like petty theft

Now that the Taxpayers Know what the County has spent, it’s time the County Know the only thing the Taxpayers care about in all of this is that OUR HARD-EARNED WALLETS ARE BEING RAPED over No Name Key!

Call your Commissioners!

So let me get this straight….Monroe County and the BOCC have easily spent over $1,000,000 in legal fees on fighting Galleon Bay and electrification for maybe 30 homes on No Name. We, as taxpayers, are footing this bill. Additionally, we, the taxpayers…are on tap to pay AT LEAST another $3,000,000 in settlement fees. And 99.99% of Monroe County residents…Couldn’t. Care. Less. Monroe County and the BOCC waste our money like a Billionaire on a coke binge in Vegas and we as residents, by our own silence endorse this behavior. HOWEVER, Lisa Druckemiller steals $23,311.00 and people are screaming for justice, firings, indictments, and jail time. Ladies and gentlemen, Monroe County and the BOCC is stealing MILLIONS of your dollars!! If you’re not outraged you’re not paying attention!!

This has been brought up before

by people running for the BOCC. Unfortunately the voting block that supports these expenditures is much better financed that those that are for fiscal responsibility. I'll bet this story is swept under the rug by the time 2016 rolls around.

And this fine newspaper

endorsed every one of the five idiots on the BOCC............

Start paying attention!

Just because you do not live on No Name Key, don't for a moment think that the issues surrounding that small island will not impact your wallet. You will be digging DEEP into your pockets before the county finally settles the many lawsuits against them. Can you do anything about it? You can start by calling each county commissioner and instructing them to end the discrimination NOW - not tomorrow or next month, or after more lengthy and costly court hearings - NOW. And while you're at it, ask each commissioner how much the Putney generated issues have cost the county and do they have any plans to recover those costs? Given the amount of payoffs she has laid out over the years, it appears her pockets might be very deep - make her responsible for the issues she has generated! It goes well beyond Galleon Bay and the electricity fight on No Name Key.

Fiscal irresponsibility

How much longer will the taxpayers of Monroe County be subjected to the irresponsible actions of the Board of County Commissioners and the new County Attorney in regards to issues on No Name Key. How is it that that island, with 40 homes, takes up the bulk of the County's precious fiscal resources that could have been used for sewers, schools, purchasing ipads, etc. The Galleon Bay article is just the tip of the iceberg. Do you know how much has been wasted on the NNK electricity argument? Can anyone tell us how much we have all paid dearly for outside council from Washington DC (Derek Howard), and other attorneys contracted from Tallahassee? These people have also charged hundreds of thousands of dollars in the County's ludacris fight to prevent people living on NNK from getting the same County resources that you and I take for granted. From what I understand, the County permitted these homes, one of their neighbors, a Mrs. Putney, got on the County Planning Commission and wrote a law that prevented her neighbors from getting utilities (in order to stop Galleon Bay), long after the homes were built. Gee, that sounds ethical. And now there are at least three pending lawsuits that I am aware of that are funded by taxpayers. How much money have we spent? How much more will of this mismanagement of taxpayer money can we take, this ship is sinking, please tell the BOCC to end this now so we can focus on the rest of the Keys issues that really matter.

The only one on the commission with any

brains (and I hate to say this) is Danny. The rest have been eating Last Stand's droppings for years. Wigington, Neugent, Murphy and Rice will be responsible for your property taxes to triple next year.

Millions of dollars down the drain

It’s easy to tell when Bob Schilinger is lying because his lips are moving. His claim that the County Attorney’s office has only spent $35k on the Galleon Bay case is laughable and an insult to all those that have paid attention to this pathetic case since 1990. Mr. Schilinger, are we really to believe that Monroe County has only spent $35k on this case in 23 years? I suspect the only reason that they’ve admitted to the $822k spent on outside firms is because there is a paper trail of receipts. While the actual settlement may indeed be “only” $3.5 to $5 million, Monroe County will also be on the hook for ALL of the attorney fees spent by Galleon Bay Corp over the last 23 years. Wake up, taxpayers….expect to see a No Name Key special assessment added to your tax bill. Who can you blame? Mostly the BOCC and Alicia Putney. But you can also blame yourself. The vast majority of No Name residents have been screaming at the top of their lungs for equal rights and the end to rampant discrimination and corruption. And no one listens. We are continually ignored. Several things will happen in 2013: Galleon Bay will be awarded a hefty sum and by the time the dust settles it will reach near $10 million. That $10 million will be paid from YOUR taxes. All this to prevent 13 homes from being built next to a rock quarry and so Ms. Putney won’t have any neighbors. Also coming in 2013, No Name will be connected to the existing power lines that have been installed and energized since July 2012. But until that time comes Monroe County and the BOCC will waste hundreds if not thousands on hours attempting to prevent permits to connect to the grid. We all suffer under the stupidity of our county leadership. Why are Monroe County residents so quiet on these issues? There should be a thunderous roar to end these extremely costly, winless battles.

Why are Monroe County residents so quiet?

Answer: They’re mostly idiots and Gotminers that caused this. They're greedy and want the Keys all to their selves. Now they'll finally cause all of you to pay for their foolishness. The jig is up.

The best and the Brightest

It should be obvious to all the taxpayers by now... that the BOCC are not the best and the brightest. They are well meaning people who are not qualified at all. But they run unopposed.. so they are left to make important decisions that affect us all.

Man

up and pay the lady................
