Ragnar Relay closes local streets

KEY WEST: A part of South Street and Duval Street will be closed today for the Ragnar Relay, whose 6,000 runners began Friday in Miami and will finish today at the Southernmost Beach Cafe at the end of Duval.

South will be closed from Simonton to Duval, and the 1400 block of Duval Street will be closed.

Drivers are urged to be careful on U.S. 1 as well, as the runners will be trickling into the Florida Keys.

Ragnar Relay

I don't have a problem with runners using US1 but at a time when everyone is stressed over the current construction in Key West on Roosevelt, I think it should be rethought about the run ending IN Key West for at least the two years that the construction is going on. I mean really..it's sorta a no brainer.....

The selfishness

of all invovled in this event is unbelievable! The traffic back-ups were so ridiculous it just about ruined my day. I couldn't run errands or shop in Key West or Marathon. I'm sure the merchants are enjoying more lost revenue. Next year stay away! Run to Naples on 41 where the weather is fine and no one is inconvenienced other than the gators.

Ragnar Relay

What a great event, in a tiipicaly slow week, thanks for coming to the keys. Yes traffic was a bear but heads in beds tops a little inconvence on the road. 6000 of the right demographic for the future of kw.

Slow week? Seriously? 2

Slow week? Seriously? 2 cruise ships in almost everyday and Peak Season, does not make a slow week. Get your head out of the 90s and go downtown. There are no slow weeks here anymore, especially in January.

That's Enough

Traffic completely stopped on Kemp Channel bridge and moving 15-25 mph through rest of Summerland, Cudjoe and Sugarloaf. So much for those warnings from MCSO. Only goes to show those arrogant, idiotic van drivers don't even care enough to heed the supposed warnings issued by MCSO. This race needs to stop. No more.
