Smathers Beach in line for tons of new sand
Sand comes and goes with tides and storms

In 2011, Key West plunked down 17,500 tons of sand on Smathers Beach.

But due to continued erosion, it wasn't enough to complete the entire half-mile stretch that runs along South Rooselvelt Boulevard, city staff has said in a request to spend $375,000 on 5,345 tons of sand before April.

The ROPE fencing:

Ask them to REPLACE all of the roping along the walkways while they're at it. It's disgusting. Fallen down, torn up....shabby. No wonder the beaches aren't a "strong suit". No one is taking care of them. New trash receptacles would be nice as well.
