Waterfront restaurant, brewery on its way

The city approved a 20-year lease with the Waterfront Brewery investors on Tuesday night to build a seafood restaurant and microbrewery at the vacant 19,000 square-foot building at the Key West Bight.

Restaurateurs Joe Walsh and Chris Shultz have spent the past two years designing and planning the project that on Tuesday became a reality, with the city agreeing to front t...

The other tenants?

If this portion of the building needs $2 million in repairs to bring it up to code, what does that say about the rest of the tenants in the same building? When is the last time those businesses were checked for safety? $2 million dollar problems are going to be isolated to within the four walls of the one tenant.

Waterfront Restaurant

It is essential for every city and Key West to have vacant buildings redeveloped otherwise there is a social and economic decline in the community. Developing this building is important to the welfare of the area and especially the Bight. Hopefully more individuals will take the risk to maintain the City and create jobs. Congratulations to Waterfront Brewery for their venture. Tom Barken, Islamorada.

$2 m in Repairs?

How was it possible for Waterfront Market and its successor to operate for as many years as they did in a building that requires $2m in repairs to be brought up to code? How many other city owned buildings are in such disrepair?

brewery

should of left bucko there..

Any surprise....

that Rossi was the loan dissenter?

Nope

Why would he learn any ethics now?

Those numbers were enough....

To scare me away from this deal. Good luck to the new owners. The rent alone is over $1000.00 a day, everyday of the year.

Do we really need another

Do we really need another restaurant? The 19,000 square foot building could be anything but another restaurant. (sarcasm) I guess we don't have enough restaurants.

Bad Deal

This is a bad deal for the taxpayers and the city. What becomes of the extensive money expended to up fit this building into a brewery when the business fails prior to repaying the debt via rents? Will Messieurs Walsh and Shultz stroke a check to the city? Very doubtful. The city should have and could have sought a more credit worthy tenant. By the way, how long will Mr. Walsh's TGIF sit idle in Overseas Market?

The TGIF will open soon. I

The TGIF will open soon. I know the person he hired as manager and they are in corporate training. Better Walsh then Pat Croce

Pat Croce and Walsh are

Pat Croce and Walsh are about the same. Frozen food and bad treatment of staff and customers.
