Students throughout Florida will be participating in Celebrate Literacy Week, beginning Monday, Jan. 14. Many activities are planned at Glynn Archer Elementary School.

Kindergartners will sing along to nursery rhymes, while first- and second-graders will explore the wonders of fairy tales in preparation for a "Fairy Tale Bowl."

Older students will reading and analyze 2012-13 Florida award-winning books. One Sunshine State selection that is scheduled to be read aloud for the older grades is titled "Turtle in Paradise," written by Jessica Holmes.

The heartwarming story chronicles the life of Key West children during the years of the Great Depression.

Parents are reminded that all students should be reading at home for at least 20 minutes each evening, and those who regularly turn in reading logs could earn a Leisure Reading Award from Superintendent Mark Porter.

Mrs. Riley, media specialist, recently asked students why they love reading, and submitted these responses:

"I love reading because I want to get into a good college."

"Because when I read books, I feel like I'm in a wonder world."

"I love reading because it's like a movie in your head."
