Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and comments. Rest assured knowing I will continue his legacy and take over our family business. For us, flight represents the purest form of freedom and we enjoy nothing more than to share that freedom with our friends from key west and the visitors who come to this island to relax. We will continue our tradition of service to this city, our devotion to safety, and the familiar biplane greeting that so many associate with key west. Raymond Cabanas

Best of luck

Great news that you are going to be able to continue. Catch you next time in town. The legacy lives on. Chuck.

A Legend Lost

I met Fred about 2 weeks after I moved to Key West. I was waiting tables at a local restaurant and he came in for dinner with his son. He was definitely bigger than life. He came in a couple of weeks later and greeted me by name like he had known me forever. I will miss seeing his biplane in the skies as I make my way around Key West from now on.

Meeting Fred

My husband and I met Fred one afternoon at PT's 16 or so years ago. He was there with his Air Space Manager and we struck up a conversation, as you do. It was one of those days I like to call, A Slice of (Key Lime Pie) Life . We exchanged ideas, libations and a lot of laughs. Afternoon turned into evening and Fred was a firecracker who had us in stitches. As we reluctantly said our goodbyes he gave us his business card and offered us a Biplane ride. A week later we took him up on his generous offer and had a fun filled, rather heart pounding and thrilling flight. Fred just exuded enthusiasm for flying. It was an experience we still recall with big smiles. Over the years when special friends visited we would treat them to a biplane flight and if we were lucky Fred would be our host with the most. Fred gave his all in those moments in the air with us. It was an honor to be with him on his Biplane's. RIP Fred R. CabaƱas.He will be missed. Our deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones.

RIP Freddy

The flight we took with Fred was one we will never forget. Our hearts beat fast as we soared up and then he made us laugh our heads off.RIP Freddy..forever flying...

Ok, whiners. Hope you're happy now. Freddy, his planes, and his banners have been here far longer than YOU have, obviously. We loved Freddy and we do not love anyone who bashed him. I suggest you complainers just move out of town. You have no clue what this town is all about.

I don't see any whining

I don't see any whining comments on this page. All the comments are kind and respectful... Except yours. RIP Freddy.

Indeed. Every week there's been just such comments in the CV.

It's time these people are held accountable for their hateful rhetoric.

Those comments

They were complaints against noise, not personal attacks. Who will hold you accountable for your hateful rhetoric about everything else on the island? If Swift died in a car crash, would you be held accountable for your spewing mouth. This is a tragedy. Lets not make it about someone complaining about noise.

RIP, Freddy.

I took my first 'aerial tour' of KW with Freddy 18 years ago. At that time, he had one stunt plane and a couple of the WACO's. He was kind and didn't try to make me lose my breakfast. He loved flying.

I hope the hateful newbie who continues to complain in the Citizen's Voice about the 'loud airplanes' feels good now. That's one less 'loud plane' to ruin your warped view of paradise.

RIP General!

Such a loss. I met him a few years ago and he became an instant friend.

RIP Freddie

Very sad to lose him. May be trite to say "at least he died doing what he loved"... but it's true. RIP Freddie.

Very sad

Freddie and I were Key West High School classmates. He was a one of a kind. I saw him and his family only last week at a local restaurant and he was the same old Freddie! God rest his soul and peace to his family and friends! Robert Cintron

Every time I heard a vintage biplane...

I would look to the sky to spot Freddie.

Me too. Some just run indoors to write a nasty CV comment.

Meh.
