Irene "Rene" Candelario, 60, of Key West passed away on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Rene, as he was affectionately known, leaves behind his devoted spouse, Carol; and their children, Melissa, Maria and Krystal. He is also survived by his sisters, Maria "Nena" Candelario, Dolores Matos, Natividad Candelario; and brothers Hipolito "Cuchy" Candelario, Genoro Candelario; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of sorrowing friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Anselmo Candelario, and mother, Isidra Candelario, and brother Joe Candelario. Rene was born in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico.

He worked at Sears and had recently retired from the Key West Housing Authority.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Castillo & Thurston Funeral Home Chapel.

A celebration of his life will be held in Puerto Rico later this year.
