ROBERT LEE BURTON

ROBERT LEE BURTON, 82, PASSED AWAY ON TUESDAY, JAN. 8, 2013. HE WAS BORN JUNE 9, 1930, THE OLDEST OF THREE CHILDREN, TO ROYCE LEE BURTON AND PAULINE SWIFT BURTON IN JACKSON, MICH.

HE ATTENDED JACKSON HIGH SCHOOL AND GRADUATED IN JUNE 1948. BOB, HIS SISTER VIRGINIA, BROTHER PHILIP, AND THEIR PARENTS REMAINED IN JACKSON UNTIL THEY RELOCATED TO THE PHILADELPHIA AREA IN 1949. AFTER A SHORT STAY IN PHILADELPHIA, BOB MOVED TO NEW YORK CITY, WHERE HE FOUND WORK WAITING TABLES AND LATER WORKING WITH VARIOUS MAJOR MANHATTAN ADVERTISING AGENCIES INCLUDING GRAY ADVERTISING, NBC-TV NETWORK AND ABC-TV NETWORK.

SHORTLY AFTER HIS ARRIVAL IN NEW YORK, BOB MET HIS LONGTIME FRIEND AND PARTNER, JACK BARON. BOB AND JACK MOVED TO KEY WEST, FLA., IN AUGUST 1977 AND, WITH THEIR COLLECTION OF FURNITURE AND OBJECTS OF ART, OPENED AN ANTIQUE SHOP CALLED CARRIE'S NOTION IN THE STOREFRONT OF THEIR TRUMAN AVENUE HOME. IN 1998, THEY OPENED THE FAMED JACK BARON FOLK ART GALLERY IN DUVAL SQUARE. IN THEIR CLOSE AND REWARDING RELATIONSHIP, BOB AND JACK SHARED A REMARKABLE 53 YEARS UNTIL JACK PASSED AWAY IN JANUARY 2005. BOB IS SURVIVED BY HIS BROTHER PHILIP OF CHICAGO, ILL.; HIS SISTER VIRGINIA AND BROTHER-IN-LAW JOE MINGHENELLI OF CAPE CORAL, FLA.; AND BY VIRGINIA AND JOE'S CHILDREN, SCOTT (CAROL) AND STEVEN (TAMI); AND GRANDCHILDREN MICHAEL, CHRISTOPHER, LAUREN AND DYLAN.

BOB WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY MANY CLOSE FRIENDS IN KEY WEST, INCLUDING THE SUNDAY BRUNCH GROUP (AKA THE OCTOGENARIAN SEX CLUB -- SAM, GERRY, MARY ANN, SALLY, LIZ AND CARL); THE THURSDAY NIGHT YACHT CLUB GANG (BARB, RON, JACKIE, BILL AND JOHN); AND THE MONDAY NIGHT OUTBACK GANG (JOHN, TOM, PAUL AND REX). HE ALSO LEAVES BEHIND WONDERFUL AA FRIENDS AND HIS GOOD FRIENDS JIM BROOMFIELD, BILL HAWTHORNE AND CHRIS WELTS. BOB'S FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE ALSO GRATEFUL TO DR. JOHN CALLEJA FOR THE CARE AND FRIENDSHIP HE GAVE BOB FOR MANY YEARS.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, A DONATION TO THE JACK BARON VISUAL GRANT FUND AT THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE FLORIDA KEYS OR ANY OTHER CHARITY IN BOB'S MEMORY IS SUGGESTED.

A MEMORIAL WILL BE HELD AT 1 P.M. SATURDAY, JAN. 19, 2013, AT THE DEAN-LOPEZ FUNERAL HOME, 418 SIMONTON ST., KEY WEST, TO BE FOLLOWED BY BURIAL AT THE SOUTHERN KEYS CEMETERY, 258 AVE. A, BIG COPPITT KEY.
