After a long illness, Ruth Greene Holtsberg passed away on Jan. 9, 2013, in Lawrence, N.Y., where she resided for the past six years. She was born March 18, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., the third of four children and only daughter of Gussie and Herschel Greene. She grew up in West Palm Beach, Fla., where she met and married Herman Holtsberg of Key West, Fla., in 1945. They moved to Key West, where the Holtsberg family was well-known as founding members of the Jewish community and owners of the upscale women's specialty shop, Herman's Inc. Ruth Holtsberg was a founding officer of the Old Island Restoration Foundation at its inception in Key West in 1960. They opened specialty shops for women on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach called Tops 'n Bottoms Inc. and then branched out to other resort locations from Florida to Maine. They moved to Palm Beach permanently in 1965. She is survived by her five children and their families; Roni and Robert Lefcort, Marc and Lynn Holtsberg, Dr. Philip Holtsberg and Brian Mathewson, Richard Holtsberg and Edward R. Murray, and Suzane and Dr. Henry Stark. Grandchildren include: Allison Lefcort, Jessica and Dr. David Warren, Amy Holtsberg, Polly Mandrell, Harrison Heller, Michael Stark, Giordon Stark, Aron Stark, Rachel Stark, and Harrison Stark. Great-grandchildren: Madison and Mackenzie Warren, Jacey and Olivia Mandrell, and Benedek Stark. Graveside services were held in Florida at Eternal Light in Boynton Beach on Jan. 13, 2013.
