New suit filed in electric debate
2 No Name Key couples seek $10M

Two No Name Key families in favor of bringing commercial power to the island have filed a $10 million property rights discrimination lawsuit against Monroe County.

The lawsuit specifically challenges the county's land development regulations that prohibit power and other public utilities from being brought to No Name Key. It states the regulations are invalid, because the 20...

Monroe County

has spent a fortune fighting lawsuits that they should have negotiated for years now. The "new" look of the Commission doesn't look like there will be any change. Unfortunately the power brokers that control who gets votes in this county can afford the cost, and they easily scare the rest with the "Nine-Story Condo" Threat.

$10 Million Dollar Lawsuit Against County is RIDICULOUS!!!

Everyone who lives on No Name Key should file a lawsuit against Monroe County but not because there is no commercial power allowed on this low lying CBRS island, but because there were ever ANY developments of any kind allowed on NNK. The last hurricane that flooded my property put 2 feet of salt water here. A Cat 5 storm would put as much as 7 to 10 feet. The fact is that there should be no further development at all! So, let's use common sense and quit trying to make more catastrophic problems. Stop these ridiculous lawsuits and abide by the laws currently in place!!!

These 2 familes knew there

These 2 familes knew there was no electric service on No Name Key when they bought the properites. Having trouble meeting the mortgage payments?

Truth or Dare?

How about the long timers. The No Name old timers. Say, for example, the Eakens who have lived there for 40 years. Their deed has no restrictions saying they or the island can't have power. Until recently, no one told them they could not have power. Of course not. In fact the power company told them over and over it was possible, just wait for a few more homes to be built or to raise the money they said and wrote. Over and over and over again. That place was never designed as a solar anything. Or a diesel generator island. People were forced to adapt to survive. Especially in the summers. And then one day about a decade ago the County teamed up with Pirate Putney and stole property owner's rights without asking for their view or providing them with proper notice. Nope. No. Sorry. The 'they should have known better' answer is a farce, a fiction. A lie perpetuated by the woman who led the County to where it is now, lying to taxpayers after having stolen their rights. Thanks, however, for playing the game, the same sad game that has educators stealing from our children and schools and County Commissioner's and their staff buying hot digital devices. A 'game' that on No Name has discriminated against and hurt people for far too long. The good news for those who enjoy seeing their neighbors, and wallets, harmed like this is that once the No Name game is over, and it will soon be, there will always be a new game of lies here in paradise for those inclined to play.

And corn cobs

were used to clean people butts............

Deluded People.

I have said previously that Monroe County has no business denying power and other utilities to No Name Key and that they were going to get sued and lose. The weakness of the county's position is made clear in another No Name case involving the Galleon Bay development where the appeals court said Monroe County is libel for damages and the only question is how much a jury will award. But these people on No Name are seriously deluded. The 10 million is a fantasy figure to impress people. It has no basis in law or fact. There is no conceivable way that they are damaged to that amount. If the County burned down their house with them inside, their relatives would not get anything near that. Just more scamming lawyers. Of course, the county will fight it costing all of us taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars for a totally lost cause. Allow power on No Name and issue the permits. Be done with it. I don't live there and don't really care one way or the other, but I do care about the morons running this county wasting millions of dollars of our, the taxpayers money. The county power hungry retards need to stop listening to the lawyers lining their pockets with our money and get real. No denial of electric power is EVER going to survive in the appeals court, regardless of any arguments. The Galleon Bay case proves the County doesn't have a leg to stand on in any of this nonsense. What is the County trying to prove? That they can waste our money for their personal agendas? Stop the nonsense and trying to enforce individual agendas that have no basis in law or fact. Get your ugly butts out of No Name and lets not hear another word about it.

I hope the county

gets their ass handed to them.

Perhaps it should be much more

While he is commuting between Washington DC where he lives during the week and Key West where he works that County Assistant Attorney Howard might need to brush up on the law over the weekend...there is no statute of limitations for that violation. Ten years ago, in the midst of a different lawsuit over power, the County writes a law to prohibit power, to literally steal those people's rights, and does not even ask residents for their view? Yeah, I'd be upset, would'nt you? $ 10,000,000 might not be enough to cover the pain and suffering the County, the power company and that big mouth liar Putney that is always telling people how to live, have caused these poor people. I say stop the discrimination and let them connect for god's sake.
