Edith Fried passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. She was 97 years old. Born on Staten Island, N.Y., Aug. 3, 1915, to English immigrants Hollis Ewart Taylor and Ethel Tugwell Taylor.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Roger Morrison, in 1951 and her second husband of 34 years, Gregory Fried, in 1999. She is survived by three sons, Donald Morrison and wife Sheila of Fairfield, Conn.; Clive Morrison and wife Judy of Rowayton, Conn.; Hilary Fried and wife Laurie of Milford, Conn.; daughter, Kathy Hallett and husband Frank of Jamaica, Vt.; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Hallett of Brattleboro, Vt.; Vicki Megibow of Bethel, Conn., Ben Fried of Brooklyn, N.Y.; David Fried of Milford, Conn.; Hope Morrison of New Haven, Conn., Jack Morrison of Fairfield, Conn.; and great-granddaughter, Phoebe Grace Megibow. Additionally, nephews, Steven McCulloch of Greenwood Village, Colo., and Bruce McCulloch of Temecula, Calif.

She shared her later years between Norwalk, Conn., and Key West, Fla. Both Edith and her late husband Greg were founding members of the Unitarian Church of Westport as well as the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Key West, now One Island Family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Fried Improvement Fund at One Island Family (The Southernmost Unitarian Universalist Congregation), 801 Georgia St., Key West, FL 33040.

A memorial service will be held at noon Feb. 2, 2013, at the Unitarian Church of Westport in Connecticut, and an informal gathering of memory will be held at the same time at One Island Family in Key West.
