Keys Energy offers discount to some
Enrollment for Keys Energy Services' discount program for residential customers who are senior citizens or disabled veterans is open now through March 31. Customers previously in the program must requalify. Once qualified, a $9.53 discount will be applied to their monthly energy bills in 2013.
The customer must be at least 62 years old on the date of application. Eligible veterans must be deemed totally or permanently disabled on the date of application. Annual household income for 2013 cannot exceed $30,396, a figure based on maximum Social Security benefits paid.
Applications must be completed, signed and returned by March 31; the application must be notarized if not completed at Keys Energy. Find an application at 1001 James St., www.keysenergy.com/forms/SrCitizenDiscountApp.pdf, or by calling 305-295-1090.
MARATHON
Learn how to quit
The Florida Keys AHEC will offer a free two-hour program on how to quit smoking at 10 a.m. Feb. 16 at the Area Health Education Center, in Suite 36 at the Gulfside Village Shopping Center, 5800 Overseas Highway.
"Tools to Quit" smoking cessation program also offers, for free, two weeks' supply of nicotine replacement patches and counseling by a certified tobacco treatment specialist.
Also, a free continental breakfast will be available. "If you're ready to quit, we're ready to help," organizers say.

FIRM's annual meeting today
Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe invites the public to its annual Middle Keys meeting today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Marathon Government Center, Mile Marker 49.
Firm President County Commissioner Heather Carruthers will update the audience on the advocacy group's recent successes in its effort to keep Florida Keys' windstorm insurance rates affordable. Specifically, she will discuss FIRM's Windstorm Risk Remodeling and Analysis Initiative. A reception will be held afterward at the Sunset Grille & Raw Bar, 7 Knights Key Blvd. FIRM next will give a presentation 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in Key Largo at the Murray Nelson Government Center, Mile Marker 102; and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in Key West at the Harvey Government Center, 1200 Truman Ave.
