Pelican causes fault that triggers outage

LOWER KEYS: A pelican that hit power lines near Mile Marker 24 triggered an hourlong power outage Saturday, according to Keys Energy Services spokesman Julio Barroso.

At 1:56 p.m., 2,200 Keys Energy customers on Summerland, Ramrod and Torch keys lost power from an electrical fault resulting from the bird strike, Barroso said. Crews had restored power by 2:52 p.m.
