Friction hard to avoid in small town

Deputies had to intervene when a friend of Dennis Zecca confronted Bruce Schmitt last month, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office offense report.

Zecca is charged with conspiring to hire a hit man to kill Schmitt.

According to the deputies' report, here is how the incident went down: Peter Policastro, 57, a 10-year friend of Zecca, arrived at an American Caribbean Real Estate office in Marathon on the afternoon of Jan. 19 to talk to Ginger Henderson, Schmitt's girlfriend.

Schmitt was helping Henderson at the office, which was in the final stages of construction, when Policastro walked up and began to "speak about business dealings and claimed to have met Bruce before and knew him," the report states.

Policastro and Schmitt began talking about Policastro's intention to work for Publix when Schmitt recognized Policastro as a friend of Marathon Planning Commission member Ralph Lucignano.

Both men exchanged words and, "at one point Peter got into Bruce's face during a now-heated argument," the report states.

Schmitt then called 911, fearing Policastro was trying to "bait him into doing something."

Policastro told the deputy he recently resigned his manager job at a local resort and "was looking for a simple life," and that he stopped to speak only to Henderson, not Schmitt. He said he stayed on the scene because he wanted to clarify that he had done nothing wrong, the report states.

The deputy reportedly asked Policastro to leave, and he complied.

Policastro and Zecca were involved in a company called KVL Property Management that is no longer in business, according to state Division of Corporations records.

How could this even occur?

The Citizen is still reporting that Bruce is, and has been, in hiding in another country. Maybe Marathon is finally being referred to as a 3rd world country.

Schmitt is from the Mustelidae family (weasel)

In general, the Mustelidae are phylogenetically relatively primitive, so were difficult to classify until genetic evidence became available. The increasing availability of such evidence may well result in some members of the family being moved to their own separate families, as has already happened with the skunks.

Friction and Bubba

There is a lot of friction in Marathon because many involved in making decisions are in it for "what's in it for me", Marathon's incorporation was just another layer of corruption and has cost the residents dearly since it's incorporation. Small "Bubba" cities in a small "Bubba" county does not make sound business sense, the citizens of Marathon made the incorporation mistake and should move to dissolve the city and be just under the county and not both as they are now. Part of this play is who can and can not sell liquor in a small not "laid back" but "tense" town.

They already tried that years back

The county didn't even want Marathon back. Nobody wants Marathon; it’s a pigsty.

A couple of ignoramuses

Bonefish is either ignorant or feels he/she is a victim of local government. Marathon's incorporation put it years ahead of where it would still be languishing under county rule. And it's amazing Sal removed his head from his own posterior orifice long enough to critique the view somewhere else. Stay in your hole, Sal -- it's nicer for all of us that way.

Yes Marathon Streamlined corruption

Marathon is more of a place you pass through on your way to Key West than ever and I always wondered how many free meals Mike and John had in office! Sal and I do not always agree but he does seem to know where most of the "bones" are buried.

This guy must

own something in the pigsty.....Sorry just telling the truth. An i'm not going to stay in my hole....This is more fun.
