The Navy's recent decision to close Truman Harbor to all civilian boats blew one sightseeing company's new "duck" tours venture out of the water.
But the real knockout punch from the harbor ban, set to take effect Feb. 25, was delivered to the 15-year promise of bringing a marina to the Truman Waterfront, said Mayor Craig Cates.

I'm astounded that HTA's Chris Belland was allowed his half-page, biased diatribe on the editorial page. In fact, it's shameful that he's given any voice on the editorial page, even under the label of "comment."
Smacks of what some used to call the "green journalism" at the Blue Newspaper.
And comment: I totally agree with your post, Erin. Belland is trying to rally the people against the Navy when in fact, we SUPPORT the Navy in this. Is Belland that clueless as to the disdain for him, his business partner and his companies in this community? Since we know he's not fiscally sound, with the major list of property foreclosures and we know he's not paid his company's taxes, leases or license fees in ages, one might wonder what else he ignores in his la-la land thinking. Why is he still making money off the misery of the residents of Old Town when he can't even do his part and pay his bills? He continues to put more and more burden on the people of Key West with his sad little tours and with his refusal to pay the debts he owes the taxpayers. We all know about the 'seed money' he and Swift used to start this mess in the 70's and that right there shows us a great deal about his lack of ethics. I think it is plain to see that he has no viable support in this town from the comments in the paper. The one or two in his favor are probably from his wife, Piper Smith.
