City to discuss Mallory Square eatery

A proposal to build a two-story, 150-seat restaurant at an edge of Mallory Square is back before the City Commission having survived a legal battle from a neighboring resort that tried to block the construction in court.

At their Wednesday night meeting, city commissioners will hold a public hearing over whether to approve developer Joe Walsh's plan to demolish the existi...

30 seat snack-bar to 150 seat restaurant...

So how did the City Planner determine that a 30 seat snack bar had the same consumption area as a 150 seat restaurant with a full liquor license?

Its better

than what is there now, an eyesore of a building generating little or no tax revenue with a bunch of bums passed out on the property stinking up the square. I say build it, and it will provide jobs, tax revenue and a better image for the city.

More Ubiquitous than McDonald's...

Is this really good for Key West?

Pretty soon, one of these plastic restaurants will be on every block!

Have the height requirements changed since Walsh wanted

the property to begin with? No. He should just do with fewer than 150 seats. I'm constantly shocked at developers who knowingly ignore the laws and then expect forgiveness.

What they should be discussing...

Once again there are three cruise ships disgorging thousands of cheap oglers onto our narrow Old Town streets, clogging our intersections and halting traffic on trains and trolleys.

Each will buy one t-shirt and a refrigerator magnet.

As a whole the cruise industry accounts for less than five percent of our city's annual revenue.

It's time at least one city commissioner propose an ordinance increasing disembarkation fees and limiting the number of passengers allowed on our streets per week.

Who's it going to be? Who will stand up to Rossi, Swift and Panico?

This needs to be done NOW.

Hmmm.

It appears that all of the restaurants in Key West are being bought up by two to three people.

And the food at the Wash restaurants is horrid.

It is not edible, not healthy and even toxic.

I agree with mac on this

I agree with mac on this one. We love Jack Flats. The food is tasty and the service and staff are top rate.

Tina, cant agree with you. . .

On that one. I'm not in favor of a two story structure on Mallory, but Walsh does run a good operation & the food is way better than some others here.

Really?

I think the food at Jack Flats is pretty darn tasty. Wednesday's beer-cheese soup ROCKS!

Like the Conch Train embarrasses railways.

These restaurants discredit good food like the Conch Train demeans the history of Americs's railroads.
