BP fines, business growth top BOCC agenda

The Monroe County Commission will take its first steps this week in creating a committee that will oversee the doling out of millions of dollars from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

When the commission meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Murray Nelson Government Center in Key Largo, it will vote on a resolution creating the Monroe County Restore Act Committee.

Not a drop of oil.

The fraud being committed here in the Keys is astounding. It's free money right? All one has to do is put out their hand and lie... a truly pathetic society we live in. I do not recognize this country anymore.

I guess you have no clue about what it takes to ruin business,

huh? All those news reports of tar balls on the beaches of the Keys, months and months on end. How about people here who depend on customers in the boating business up in the panhandle? How about restaurants who had no customers when the tourists didn't come, and their staff? How about B&B's and hotels with no heads in the bed because of the bad publicity? How about sportfishing guys who had cancellations of bookings made months in advance? A lot of people were impacted and local businesses suffered mightily.

Just because YOU didn't have a loss, it doesn't mean others didn't. I guess you also think that those poor passengers exposed to raw sewage for 5 days on the Carnival Triumph deserve nothing for that horrid misery and the disease in their future. I guess you also don't want to have children and for that matter, ALL people in this country insured at the same level that our law makers are insured. You are very predictable. It's all about you, right?

Predictable? No.

YOU must be a Liberal. I was impacted as well but, don't stand with my hand out expecting someone to take care of me. I had loss. I have been out of work for four months but refuse to accept charity because I know that I am strong, healthy and can always find work. I have never been on unemployment, welfare, food stamps or workman's comp. You pathetic, predictable individual.

You are aware, aren't you that RED STATES are the primary

consumer of Federal assistance dollars? Indeed. Red States USE more welfare and other funds than they contribute to the pool. Guess that kind of shoots your little theory in the foot.

This has nothing to do with liberals

I know tons of republicans down here lined up at the trough. What about all the right wing hillbillies who have been on public aid or food stamps for generations? Funny how you don't see them profiled on Drudge Report. Nope, just the fat black lady yelling Obamaphone! I agree that this money is NOT deserved and am sick of people looking for hand outs, but don't be confused. It has nothing to do with liberal or conservative. Plenty of hard working people are liberal. It has to do with right and wrong, morals and ethics, upbringing and a solid work ethic. There are plenty of bums with their hands out in both of our sad, sick parties. I agreed with your first comment. The oil spill was barely a blip down here in spite of rants from people looking for money. You lost me when you acted like this has anything to do with politics.

Lastly...

@666: The writer volleyed an ad hominem attack at me. He loquaciously went on a rant about the cruise ship floundering at sea with sewage, health care for all, etc. Yes, I did assume that the writer is a Liberal just alone by his health care comment. The trough as you mention should be cut off to all Republicans and Liberals. This is a huge scam and we are paying for it at the gas pump. Contrary to popular belief, this is not free money. We have an entitlement society now and most of them voted for obama. I for one do not recognize this country. btw... I am a professional 100 Ton Master charter captain working in Key West.

I suggest you study up a bit. Fuel prices are determined by

the international market, not the drop-in-the-bucket fines that BP and co have to pay.

A 100 ton masters ticket isn't a bit deal. Are you one of those who feels you must have 'captain' in front of your name to feel like a big guy? Selfish people who show no compassion for others are the problem with this country. The right wing is made up of Baggers, Pubs and the people that are too dumb to know when they are voting against their own best interests and only care about themselves.

Ah....

@666, I suppose I was correct about this person being a liberal?

clearly the liberal fool.
