FKCC moves toward bachelor's degrees
President Gueverra announces new programs in his inaugural address

Four-year, baccalaureate degree programs are coming to Florida Keys Community College.

The announcement was made Friday night during the inauguration ceremony for President Jonathan Gueverra, who took the reins of the 48-year-old institution in August.

"I have instructed Provost Snyder to plan for baccalaureate offerings" as soon as possible, Gueverra sai...

College Degrees

I recently read an article that the job your grandfather held with little or no formal education your father would need to have at least an 8th grade education for the same job. To hold this job you would need to be a high school graduate and you child would need to be a college graduate, and your grandchild would need to have a graduate or professional degree. We have so many people going to college today that the value of a college degree is deflated. Do we really need FKCC offering 4-year degrees, it seems like less college is needed not more.

FKCC is less college

FKCC bluffed their way through the last accreditation and is a farce. Some students held a peaceful demonstration about the firing of a favorite teacher; like poster signs, oh wow so FKCC calls the cops, so much for peaceful demonstration. I came over and took pictures of what looks like a peaceful demonstration and will send them to the Citizen and see if they will print them. So much for human rights, FKCC does not know the meaning of humanity.

Question

Bonefish: Are you saying that they walked around a little bit with signs and the boneheads had them arrested?

FKCC's public face vs private reality.

The PR sounds great, but the reality that in the last several years, FKCC has "let go" many of it's fine professors for cost and personal vendetta reasons. The college has invested heavily in it's infrastructure at the same time it has trimmed it faculty. There are less and less full time professors and these positions are being replaced by adjuncts or courses are being eliminated all together. The administration has eliminated criticism to it's policies through censorship and intimidation. Those still working at the college who really care about it's future are faced with retaliation if they speak up and eventually with the canceling of their contracts. FKCC needs to invest in it's students education not it's PR!

Still will be easier and

Still will be easier and cheaper for keys residents to do through "the big three": Thomas Edison, Charter Oak, or Excelsior. Also, homeschool kids can be earning college credit through these schools. And no, these are not BS online degree mills like Phoenix U.

Waste of tax payer's dollars

The school can hardly fill programs in the two year program now they want four year degrees; when does the waste of tax dollars stop? Gueverra better check and see if his own instructors have four year degrees first.
