Island divided: power v. no power
May be light at the end of the tunnel, as county holds special meeting Tuesday

Both opponents and proponents of bringing commercial power to No Name Key have fought an unwavering battle for decades.

The strife has played out in courtrooms, community forums and local government meetings. It has fractured the small community of 43 homes so much that residents have likened it to the Hatfields and McCoys.

The neighborhood dispute is not...

Truth & Lies

Alicia Putney has no credibility. None what-so-ever. Zip. No financial interest? That's a cute new cover story about her asking an attorney about whether she could vote. What then is her home, bought for free? She paid money for it, to purchase it and maintain it and that money Ms. Putney is called finances. We do not need to ask anyone their view, of course you had a conflict, your home is on No Name. She's lied to the Board of County Commissioners and Press for YEARS. To suggest that she got appointed to the Planning Commission and it just so happened to be that stealing the right to utilites on No Name Key was on her first agenda, or she did not play THE key role in that legislation, is sheerly stupid. Another Putney lie. She had been an activist for years and No Name was her focus. Her many years of activism about No Name is how she got placed on the Planing Commission in the first place. Make no mistake, she did ALL of the ground work on that issue, her hands (and blood) are all over that Legislation and should the Citizen want to publish her work just say the word and it will be provided for publication, her hand written notes, proposed changes and more, all there to be seen for what it is. The truth. After years of work, her's nearly alone, she was SO pleased with the outcome in the form of the then proposed Legislation that she could not wait to vote for it, despite clearly having a conflict of interest by way of living in the community, much less the not so small fact that she was the Interveener in a lawsuit fighting power. At that exact same time. Any decent public servant, if serving the public is one's goal, recuses themselves over a debate much less a vote. But not Alicia Putney. Nope, she plowed full speed ahead, crafted and voted for it and then vigorously lobbied the BOCC to pass it. That is the truth, as is the fact that the County did not properly advertise the then proposed changes to the public, nor did they inform the No Name homeowners that they were about to steal property owner's rights without advising or asking them for their views. Instead, a governement that is all too often proven to be understaffed or ill equipped to govern took this one VERY vocal woman's comments about what SHE SAID the community wanted as if that was what everyone wanted, when instead, all she did was speak for herself and a small minority. The fact that Alica Putney is a habitual liar and has no boundary to get what she wants despite her neighbors 40 year search for something to the contrary, the County made material mistakes by not engaging the entire community about the proposed local law 10 years ago and their oversights must now be corrected and paid for.

Of course

Neugent and Rice have now distanced their selves from this fiasco by saying it all started before their reigns, but we all know they've been in bed with the Putney’s for years. Mrs. Putney will be begging for a power drop as soon as the juice starts to flow. I'd make her drop to her knees for it.
