Ernest "Ernie" Benton Douglas, 69, died in his home surrounded by his MARC House family on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013.

Ernie was born in Winchester, Tenn. He spent most of his early years in Tennessee until moving to the Keys in 1989.

After the passing of his father, Hense Winton Douglas, and his mother, Grace Scott, Ernie lived with his brother, Doug Douglas, until moving into the MARC Windsor Group Home.

Ernie is survived by his brother Doug Douglas, sister-in-law Peggy Douglas, niece Angie Neumann and nephew Scott Douglas and their children.

Ernie left behind many friends at MARC and in the community who remember him fondly for his fierce determination, wonderful spirit and love of Elvis Presley.

An informal service and celebration of his life will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, March 4, at The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Key West. Refreshments will follow the celebration at the Rainbow Café, 1401 Seminary St.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MARC Inc. Box 428 Key West, FL 33041.
