Learn prehistoric plant use

The Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden will celebrate Archeology Month with a presentation about how prehistoric Native Americans used plants, at 7 p.m. March 12 at the garden.

Indigenous Florida Keys' flora will be among the species discussed.

The guest speaker will be Michelle Williams, director of the Southeast Region of the Florida Public Archaeology Network at Florida Atlantic University. She is an archaeologist who specializes in the genre.

The event will be in the Forest's Nature Chapel, at the garden on College Road. It's free for garden members; $5 for others, but students are free.

Concert feeds children

Proceeds from the Key West Woman's Club annual Woman's Hope Concert later this month will benefit Wesley House Family Services' food program for students living at or below poverty level. The concert raises money for a different nonprofit every year.

The concert will take place at 8 p.m. March 22 at the Tennessee Williams Theatre, on the campus of Florida Keys Community College. The Nutritional Backpack Program provides 6 to 8 pounds of child-friendly, nutritious food for children at Inez Martin Child Care Center and their siblings, whose families can't feed them properly over the weekend or holidays. Buy tickets at keystix.com. It's $45, $55 for a table, and $65 for a premium table.
