N. Roosevelt sidewalk closed for duration

KEY WEST: The North Roosevelt Boulevard promenade is now closed through the duration of the road reconstruction project. Pedestrians and bicyclists must use the designated path between the two inbound traffic lanes and the construction zone. The sidewalk was closed for safety, as heavy machinery will be used to work on the seawall and road, said project spokesman Dean Walters. It is now a trespassing violation to use the promenade, he added.

Also, lanes at the Triangle entrance to the island will be closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday as crews continue installing a water pipe.

Police will direct traffic. For more information, contact Walters at 305-849-1474 or dean@swcinc.net.

Dangerous

Dangerous ! Dangerous ! Dangerous ! It was dangerous before & it will be 10 times more dangerous now. This needs to get done. NOW ! Hurricane season is around the corner, too. It takes me 25 minutes to get to KMart ! And without the sidewalks there will be no walking & even more dangerous for bikes.

THe Paths need lights that

THe Paths need lights that are one. When you are biking at night and being so close to the road you get blinded by the traffic lights. Bike lights or no will not help. It is a mugging or accident waiting to happen. I hate to say it but 'screw the sea turtles' turn on the street lights. It is a matter of safety

No beach, no turtles.

There is no beach and no turtle nesting. The problem with lights across from beaches confuses the baby turtles and sends them away from the water. There is no sand, no beach and thus no turtles anywhere near. They would not be able to crawl over the sea wall in any case. The vehicle lights, especially the idiots who drive with their brights on blind anyone biking on that path. I had someone hit me headon with another bike because of that. Even without high beams, so many new cars have outrageously bright headlamps and so many people don't have them aimed correctly.

Then why the hell do they

Then why the hell do they turn the street lights off?

Promenade

The temporary pedestrian / bicycle lane is too narrow, too crowded, too dark, too bumpy, too busy, and too dangerous.

Also, it is dangerous to

Also, it is dangerous to ride on the side where cars can't veer to avoid the bicycles or the vehicles will collide into the opposite traffic. What is the bicyclist to do? take the back roads? I believe it would be safer and any passing cars can give a wide berth. The construction is a royal pain in the arse.

Too long!

How many workers do they have,.. 4? This job would be done anywhere else in the planet in 6 MONTHS! I drive down that road multiple time all day, and I RARELY see people working.. Sad fact that this project will probably take longer than the two years they projected... I say fire them and hire a NEW company!!
