Ronald Emil Ersay, M.D., passed away in his sleep at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, after a long battle with kidney disease.

Dr. Ersay was born on June 14, 1944, in Madison, Wis., to Dr. and Mrs. Emil Ersay. He spent his early childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, and then at the age of 13 moved to Pompano Beach, Fla. He graduated from Pompano Beach High School with numerous thespian and oratorical awards.

He served the community's health for 27-plus years.

Dr. Ersay is survived by his wife, Molly; his sister, Dr. Elayne Cassisi, and her husband, Dr. Nicholas Cassisi. He is also survived by two nephews and a niece: Dr. Jeffrey Cassisi (Christine Miller), their two children, Caitlin and Kevin; Nicole Cassisi Yucht (Dr. Steve Yucht), their four children, Erica, Trevor, Hannah and Bradley; and Dr. Christopher Cassisi (Jennifer Banner), and their two children, Reese and Rex. He will be missed by us all.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea. Burial will be in Southern Key Cemetery, Big Coppitt Key. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home, 418 Simonton St., Key West, Fla., with a prayer service at 7:15 p.m. Following the graveside service, there will be a gathering at the Key West Yacht Club, 2315 N. Roosevelt Blvd.

The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
