Age discrimination in Monroe County is rampant.

You find it not only in government but also in private and corporate businesses in Monroe County. Employers would rather hire young workers than an older employee that will probably want to stay in the job for a longer time. You see the same employers advertising the same jobs month after month. They complain their employees are unreliable, lazy, but they won't give a more seasoned person a chance who has proven work experience.

Keys employees in general...

I think that employers in the Keys miserably abuse their employees on the whole. We all know of people working multiple jobs, long hours, low pay, no time off, etc. Discrimination on so many different levels is commonplace. People are afraid to complain for fear of losing their jobs and getting black-listed. I've never seen anything like it. Who is watching the employers? I'm waiting for the story on illegal child labor. This place is a throw-back to an era which gave rise to labor unions. Nepotism, favoritism, corruption, abuse, the "Bubba System... Where will it end? The employers complain about their employees because they really want slaves. People need to band together, as they once did, to create change. Where are the courageous? Florida's "at-will" laissez-faire approach to labor is really an inside joke which gives the employers all the power to do whatever they want to employees. Everything is a pretext.
