Motorcyclist arrested

ISLAMORADA -- A second person involved in a high-speed motorcycle chase with deputies in January was arrested last week.

Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony O'Dea was on patrol near mile marker 71 at 7 p.m. Jan. 21, when he saw two motorcycles allegedly speeding northbound. He turned on his lights and siren to stop them, but instead they sped up, according to the deputy. He said they passed numerous cars in no-passing zones and were traveling more than 75 miles an hour in heavy traffic.

At the mile marker 74, one of the motorcycles turned off the highway and eventually stopped on Iroquois Drive. Islamorada resident Jose Bolivar, 18, was placed under arrest and charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving and received numerous traffic citations.

Bolivar told the deputy the other driver was 20-year-old Anthony Hoover of Key Largo, according to the arrest report.

Bolivar had a video recorder mounted to his helmet which was running at the time of the chase on the highway, the report states. The video was collected as evidence and used to confirm Hoover's identity, as well as the traffic violations committed by the two men as they sped away from O'Dea.

A warrant was issued for Hoover's arrest and he was booked into jail on March 12 on charges of fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and reckless driving.
