Boys, 13, sent to juvenile program
Airsoft gun offense won't be on record

Two boys charged with bringing an airsoft gun to Horace O'Bryant Middle School last month agreed Tuesday to enter a juvenile program that could spare them criminal records.

The 13-year-olds agreed to enter the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Intensive Delinquency Diversion Service (IDDS) as part of an agreement with prosecutors, said Assistant State Attorney Assistant State...

I wonder

if they had access to a real gun, would they have brought that to school. My money is on yes. Lets just be thankful that they did not. I hope a lesson is learned by these kids who did something very stupid. In some areas of the country there is a zero tolerance policy in schools for anything that even resembles a gun. The reason being, if you display something that looks like a gun you could be shot by law enforcement. If you consider the punishment they got off easy this time.

Use common sense.

This is the part of the story that everyone with common sense should be paying attention to: "These airsoft pistols don't meet the definition of a weapon in the state statute," Kaufman said outside court. "They're non-lethal. To me, this a school disciplinary issue and not a legal issue." The overreaction to pastry and paper-shaped guns is beyond comprehension. Exercise common sense. These kids should be disciplined and that's it.

Guns phony charge

The accelerated rehab was the easiest way out for these kids. Their parents would have spent thousands of dollars in legal fees if they did not take the deal. In New Hampshire where I have once lived it was common for pre teen and teenage girls and boys to bring bb guns to school. Many areas it is still allowed. In Switzerland it is socially and legally acceptable for teenage girls to ride around on their bikes with AR 15'S. NO PROBLEM WITH RAPES OR ASSAULTS IN THAT COUNTRY. I wish there was someone with a gun at my former childhood school in Connecticut. We would not have had 26 people murdered that dec 14.

Please show us a link with photos of these mythical Swiss girls

Fred, where do you live? Inside your head filled with NRA soundbites?

Come on. Show us some direct links to national newspapers or magazines with photos of these girls riding bicycles in Switzerland with loaded AR 15's.

I just googled images and stories for Swiss school girls and AR 15s. Not surprisingly, there is nothing to be found to back up your outrageous claim. Leaving me to wonder who is filling your head with such b.s.? It sounds like something from the NRA or an Alex Jones broadcast. Or maybe this is some kind of Internet porn which is posed for gun nuts to nut up to and can only be accessed with a credit card? Regardless, your claim looks plenty shaky, and sounds like you're yodeling up your own bum.

And as far as the Wayne Pierre nonsense of handing out guns to janitors and teachers in schoools to prevent innocent people from losing their lives at the hands of a maniac, just keep in mind, the Ft. Hood assassin did his business on an Army base. Not many loaded weapons there, hmmm? Or how about the first two cops answering the Sikh temple massacre? One shot dead, the other wounded. And let's not forget the 8 cops on "administrative leave" who opened fire on a wrong make and color truck with two Hispanic females delivering newspapers in residential neighborhood when they were looking for Christopher Dorner. That one truck alone had more than 100 bullet holes in it, while bullet holes were found in doors, windows, and mailboxes in the neighborhood where the cops unloaded on their two female victims:

Now if that is how 8 LEOs react under pressure, do you really believe the crap coming out of Wayne LaPierre's mouth that lives would have been saved in Newton if teachers and janitors and a cop or two had been posted in a school with loaded handguns? Can you imagine the chaos? A janitor with a gun taking on a man with a full body armor and an assault weapon?

Do you want to turn this whole nation into an Armed Owellian state where robocops are posted at every public institution's doors? Seriously, do we want all the Security/Staff/ECT types down in the bars on Duval strutting at the entrances with handguns on their hips? Nothing could go wrong there, right? And why stop there? Why not allow customers into the bars with loaded guns? That would surely make us all safer in your thinking. What could possibly go wrong then, mixing alcohol and guns, one guy goes off, and a whole bar erupts in a crossfire? Yeah, that's the kind of "safe" you'd be dealing with in your NRA pipe dreams which turn into nightmares.

Your ignorance is appalling

I lived in Switzerland for several years and no 15 year old girl would EVER ride around with an AR15 or any gun for that matter. Stop spouting crap you hear on Fox News. Yes, Swiss people own guns (and I support gun ownership here), but stupid statements like this are just that, stupid!

Next this coward

will be telling us he was in seal team 6.

Sorry, Sal, But 666 Is Correct

Having lived in Bern, Switzerland, I never once saw anyone - other than a law officer and the occasional Swiss troop - who had a firearm of any sort. And I just googled Fred's outrageous claim of Swiss schoolgirls riding bicycles with loaded AR 15s on their back to see if anything has changed since the 1990s (when I was last there). Sorry, Sal, but 666 is correct, and you and Fred are wrong in your projections. There are no Catholic school girls in the cantons of Switzerland riding bicycles and flaunting their AR 15s. Maybe the Libertarian paradise of Somalia might have such a dreamy reality of gun porn for you?

Pesky bug

Buzz buzz... At least I didn't run away to live with a bunch of rednecks. No, I was not a Navy Seal, but I did live in Switzerland and it was beautiful. Full of beauty and nature and people with pride in the environment. You know, the type of people you hate.

Where are there names? You

Where are there names? You were awfully quick to go after the Fisher boy but these two remain anonymous.

The Fisher kid committed a felony.

It doesn't appear these kids did.

Wow!

What a waste to send to kids to Juvi because of a simple mistake! Wow Key West authorities, all that will do is expose them to more criminal minds in their! You know how I learned not to do something stupid like that? Well my dad whooped my a.. a few times and guess what? I never did something stupid at school again! Back then kids fought hand to hand, but my dad kicked my a.. for fighting at school which is a place of learning and a place to learn respect for one another! Today in this country we have school shootings, stabbings, etc... you know why? Because the parents are to blame for the upbringing of these kids! Today kids threaten their parents for whooping their a.. when they misbehave, they cry child abuse! parents are even arrested! LOL! When I was growing up, I was scared to misbehave at school! My family taught me that school is a place to learn and grow! Today punk-a.. kids rule their parents and run the show! What these kids needed was a good whooping and I bet they will think twice about doing it again! But instead they got sent to where they will be in a nice a.c. building, play cards and do nothing all day but hang out around real criminals! Wake up people!

Mistake?

They are getting off easy? They and their parents should be off to adult prison.

Dont be mad

Dont be mad that the Conchs know how to take care of business. Great job of Mike Henriques realizing this is so stupid. Common sense conchs thats what we need more of. Acevedo in 2015.

Perfect

No young person should have to suffer for the rest of their life for a really stupid decision made as a child, particularly when, in the end, no harm came to anyone. Growing up in this toxic society is hard enough without malicious labels being applied for acts that can be argued are a product of that environment.
