MONROE COUNTY
Gentile hearing is postponed
A state hearing for outgoing School District Director of Finance and Performance Ken Gentile has been postponed until 9 a.m. April 10, in the media room of the Marathon Government Center.
The teleconference hearing before the state Division of Administrative Hearings was scheduled for Wednesday, but delayed at the Monroe County School Board's request.
Gentile is appealing a suspension, which he already served, doled out by Schools Superintendent Mark Porter for putting the CPA title on his 2010 employment application. His New York license expired in 1993, and he never was a CPA in Florida. Gentile's contract won't be renewed when it expires in April.
STOCK ISLAND
Farm needs horse trailer
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Animal Farm needs help, according to spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin. Farmer Jeanne Selander needs a new trailer to transport animals to various community events countywide.
The current trailer is too old to continue using, Herrin said.
Anyone who might have a used horse trailer in good shape to donate is asked to call Selander at 305-293-7300. The Animal Farm is open to the public 1 to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Sundays of the month. This Sunday is Easter on the Farm, which is at the Stock Island Detention Center, 5501 College Road.
