STOCK ISLAND

Man who apparently shot self ID'd

A man found dead in a Stock Island yard Friday after apparently shooting himself in the head was identified Saturday as Navy Lt. Joshua Wall, 35, of Magna, Utah, of Joint Interagency Task Force (JIATF) South.

Co-workers found Wall's body at 10:38 a.m. Friday behind an Eighth Avenue home, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

JIATF-S director Coast Guard Rear Adm. Chuck Michel said: "Lt. Wall served as command duty officer, was responsible for supervising activities in our current operations, and was an exceptional officer, leader, and shipmate. Our deepest condolences are with his family."

JIATF-S is a countersmuggling organization of military and federal law enforcement officials based on Naval Air Station Key West property in Truman Annex on the western edge of the island.
