Gloria Joyce Mariscal, 66, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at home surrounded by family, on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. A seventh-generation Conch, she was born in Key West on Sept. 9, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Mary (Marshall) Hinde Sr., and her sister Brenda "Sissy" Morris. She married Louis A. Mariscal in Key West on June 1, 1962. Gloria dedicated much of her life in service to the Monroe County School System, where she loved working with kids as she performed duties such as bus driver, cafeteria worker and day care worker. She is survived by her brothers, Albert, Vance and wife Linda, John Jr. and his wife Cece, Hinde and John Respante. Her children Louis Jr. and his wife Karla, son Danny and his wife Lynese, daughter Deanne and her husband Matt Patchan III, and youngest daughter Nancy. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Louis III, Rosita, Emily, Brittany Lynn, Danielle Nicole, Matthew David, Brandon Dominic, Scott Daniel, Frederick Donovan and James Dale. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, she also is survived by her lifelong best friend, Benita Jones, and her precious dogs, Noel and Chula. Gloria was our Queen Conch who built a strong foundation of love and caring within our family that spread throughout the entire island. The door to her house and heart was always open to anyone in need. Her love is embedded in our hearts forever. Although our Rock has crumbled, there will still be enough pieces for everyone who loved her. Come join us as we celebrate her life. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Saturday, April 6, 2013, at The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Burial in Key West City Cemetery. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
