Royal poincianas are a signature tree of Key West (see Solares Hill, April 14, "That Lovely, Dirty, Royal Weed"). They appear in aerial photos of the island in their blooming splendor, also in multiple works of art including a remarkable George Carey painting of Whitehead Street in the 1950s. We personally decorated the poinciana pods we collect...
