LYNN S. SMITH

LYNN S. SMITH DIED LAST OCTOBER IN THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF. SHE LIVED IN KEY WEST FROM 2002 TO 2010. SHE WORKED AS A REALTOR, PLAYED ON THE BAYVIEW TENNIS COURTS, AND SERVED ON THE BOARD OF SCULPTURE KEY WEST. AS A REALTOR, SHE SOLD NEARLY $4 MILLION HER FIRST YEAR HERE. AS A TENNIS PLAYER, SHE HELD HER OWN WITH THE TOUGH GUYS IN THE AFTERNOON SESSION AT BAYVIEW, AS WELL AS WITH THE GENTLE FOLK OF THE SUGARLOAF TENNIS AND LEISURE CLUB. ON THE SCULPTURE KEY WEST BOARD, SHE WAS THE EVENTS CHAIR AND GOT TO KNOW EVERYBODY IN TOWN.

A WORLD TRAVELER, SHE SPOKE NOT ONLY CONVERSATIONAL FRENCH AND SPANISH, BUT ALSO SWAHILI, DUE TO HER PARTICULAR AFFECTION FOR THE LAND, CULTURE AND PEOPLE OF AFRICA AND HER INTEREST IN PROTECTING THE WILDLIFE THERE.

LYNN'S BELOVED TRAVEL COMPANION, SAMBA, HER CAT, NOW RESIDES WITH HER SISTER AND STILL ENJOYS HIS DAILY SEAFOOD COCKTAIL.

LYNN WAS A BEAUTIFUL AND VIVACIOUS WOMAN WITH A JOYFUL FLAIR FOR LIFE.

SHE SURVIVED BREAST CANCER, AND MADE EXERCISE AND HEALTHFUL NUTRITION A FOCUS OF HER LIFE THEREAFTER. CRUELLY, DESPITE HAVING GIVEN UP SMOKING 10 YEARS AGO, LUNG CANCER CLAIMED HER SUDDENLY AFTER A SURPRISE DIAGNOSIS. SHE LEFT US WITHOUT WARNING, AND WE MISS HER.

A CELEBRATION OF HER LIFE WILL TAKE PLACE AT 6:30 P.M. SUNDAY, MAY 5, AT HER BELOVED FORT ZACHARY TAYLOR BEACH, NEAR THE WESTERN JETTY.
