MANFRED LUTZ

MANFRED LUTZ WAS BORN IN KIRCHHEIM-TECK, GERMANY, ON MAY 1, 1934. HE AND HIS WIFE, ELKE, CAME TO KEY WEST IN 1975 AND OPENED THE BAVARIAN BAKERY IN SEARSTOWN IN 1976.

AFTER THE BAKERY CLOSED IN 2003, FREDDY WORKED AT THE HILTON, THE WATERFRONT GROCERY, AND OTHER LOCAL RESTAURANTS. HE ENJOYED SPENDING TIME AT RIVERA'S CAFE AT HABANA PLAZA, WHERE HE WAS KNOWN AS EL ALEMAN AND SHARED HIS TALES WITH THE FORMER MOVERS AND SHAKERS OF KEY WEST.

THE LUTZENS RELOCATED TO SANFORD, N.C., IN 2006. FREDDIE PASSED AWAY APRIL 15, 2013, AND HIS ASHES WERE SPREAD IN FORT MACON, ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, ELKE; HIS TWO SONS, HARALD AND DAVID AND THEIR FAMILIES; HIS BROTHER HANS AND HIS FAMILY IN GERMANY; AND HIS SISTER ELLI ELSAESSER IN SWITZERLAND.

HE WAS A DOTING GRANDFATHER OF ANDREA AND NICOLE, AND A VERY HAPPY GREAT GRANDFATHER OF LEON. HIS RECIPES OF A COLORFUL LIFE AND GOOD COOKING WILL BE SORELY MISSED.
