John William Rice, known affectionately as Johnny Bruce to many, passed away at home Sunday, June 30, 2013, surrounded by loved ones Carin Beam and Susan Rich.

Johnny Bruce was born Sept. 29, 1955. He left his birthplace of Michigan in the 1970s to launch the big adventure that was to be his life. He knew then that he was not destined for the mainstream existence of his birthplace.

Johnny Bruce participated in the best there was to offer in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Houston, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Fort Lauderdale before settling in Key West 30 years ago. He recognized that time spent pursuing the experiences of life was just as honorable as hard work and good work ethic. He was very proud of hard work and chose to set an example in reliability and loyalty.

Of late, he had made a point of traveling the world at every opportunity. Those who knew him are aware that he led a charmed, prosperous, bold and full life. His favorite things were "sound check" at the Green Parrot or cruising U.S. Highway 1 on his Harley. Johnny Bruce is survived by his parents and siblings.

Join us in celebrating his life from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at his home, 1455 Long Beach, Big Pine Key.
