Firefighters quickly quell marina fire

Firefighters Thursday afternoon arrived at the scene of a building fire at a resort to find a good Samaritan already at work, the Sheriff's Office said.

At 1:08 p.m., the Key Largo Fire Department was summoned to Gilbert's Resort, 107900 Overseas Hwy, where one empty building was sporting fire from its roof.

The fire was quickly under control and by 1:24 p.m., the fire was out, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin.

No injuries were reported.

When deputies and firefighters arrived, they met a man already atop the roof with a water hose trying to put the fire out, Herrin said.
