Robert Noel Burns died at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Detroit to Harry and Charlotte (McKenzie) Burns. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Ann Lovelace, who passed on May 3, 2008.

Robert graduated from Michigan State University and attended law school at the University of Michigan.

He married Shirley on Oct. 25, 1959, and they shared three sons, Dean Stuart, Steven Allen and James Martin.

Robert had many vocational experiences, including delivery of ice (his most difficult endeavor), mortgage broker at Citibank in Detroit (formerly known as Advance Mortgage Corporation), owner of the Bass Lake Store in Irons, Mich., when he relocated his family to the area in 1974, and later founded Irons Real Estate where he retired as a Real Estate Broker. Robert was a disabled American veteran and served in the Air Force as well. He resided in Big Pine Key, Fla., and Irons, Mich. Robert was a nautical captain and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his sports, especially when his team was winning.

He will be forever cherished by his family, including son Dean (Leslie) and three grandchildren, Anna, Stuart and Samantha; son Steven; and son James (Becki) and grandson Christopher. The memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Stephen's/Wyman Funeral Home in Scottville, Mich., and followed by burial at Lake View Cemetery in Irons. Friends and family attended a later gathering at Skinner Park in Irons to honor the life of Robert Noel Burns.
