Ella passed peacefully from this life the morning of July 16, 2013 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Ella was a "Conch" born and raised in Key West, Fla. She was one of 10 children born to her parents Guillermina and Amado Hernandez also of Key West.

Ella lives on through her three sons, Robert, Tommy (Amelia) and Charlie; "daughter" Sara Means Weimer; five grandchildren, Robert Jr., Jason, Stacy, Todd and Alex; and eight great-grandchildren. Ella's surviving siblings are Josephine, Angela and Alice. She was preceded in death by her siblings Chino, Cheli, Ferman, Josie, Lucretia Carey and Rosie Hernandez.

Ella worked for Joe Allen, Esq., at The Coral Tribune followed by more than 20 years at the Key West Citizen and then retiring from Monroe County Clerk's Office finance department. Ella's faith guided her in life and she spent every morning studying her Christian books. Ella loved birds, butterflies, gardening, sewing and caring and helping others in need.

A celebration of life s will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at the Dean Lopez Funeral Home, 418 Simonton St., Key West, followed by a gathering at the home of Tommy and Amelia at 1210 8th St.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Ella to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of the Florida Keys, Inc.
