Pipeline work postponed
Work on the sewer pipeline underneath Tavernier Creek has been postponed until early September, Islamorada's Wastewater Program Manager Greg Tindle said last week.
Contractor Layne, known locally as Reynolds Water Islamorada, had planned to begin installation of the 1,500-foot pipeline in late July. But an eleventh-hour change in the staging area for the work led to the rescheduling, said Tom Brzezinski of the village's engineering watchdog, Wade Trim.
The pipeline installation is part of the village's $123.5 million central sewer project. The 18-inch line will reach as far as 40 feet below the bottom of the creek. Installation will cost $526,000 and is expected to take six weeks.
