A meeting to provide wastewater collection system information to residents of Lower Matecumbe Key will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Boy Scout Sea Base, 73800 Overseas Highway.
Representatives from sewer contractor Layne, known locally as Reynolds Water Islamorada; engineers from sewer consultant Wade Trim; and village officials will discuss the preliminary design for the Lower Matecumbe Key Wastewater Collection System. Residents will have an opportunity to review their proposed location for connection to the system and request modifications. The meeting will not be televised.

Sister Season fundraiser Sept. 2
The Sister Season Fund will hold its second Labor Day Appreciation Party and Fundraiser from 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 2 at The Smokin' Tuna Saloon, 4 Charles St. It's free admission, though donations at the door would be appreciated, organizers say.
The event will offer an appetizer bar for a $10 donation, raffles and live entertainment including Caffeine Carl, Nick Norman and Rusty Lemon. Business appreciation certificates will be awarded and the Sister Season volunteer of the year announced.

Labor Day storm service
The Matecumbe Historical Trust invites the public to its annual Labor Day service to honor those who lost their lives in the hurricane of Sept. 2, 1935.
The service will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at the Florida Keys Memorial hurricane monument, Mile Marker 81.2.
The trust will present an invocation, a short service, a history of the monument, a presentation of colors, the national anthem, placing of wreaths, "Taps" and a benediction.
