Library section closed
The Florida History Department at the Monroe County Public Library in Key West, 700 Fleming St., will be closed Wednesday through Sept. 16 for renovations, according to staff.
While the department is closed, most items in the collection, such as newspaper microfilms, will be unavailable to the public. However, the library's online archive of more than 15,000 historic images is always available at bit.ly/keyspix.
The Florida History Department will reopen on Sept. 17.
Alcohol booth lottery soon
Fantasy Fest provides alcohol-sales vending booths for nonprofits through a lottery.
Ten spaces -- five for the Friday Street Fair, Oct. 25, and five for the promenade and parade Oct. 26 -- are available.
To be considered for a vendor space, representatives from nonprofits must attend the Liquor Lottery and sponsor product information meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 16 at Dante's, 951 Caroline St. Bring the nonprofit's 501(c)3 paperwork.
For booth locations, pricing and application information, call the Street Fair coordinator at 305-296-1817.
Road project starts Sept. 16
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a $2.5 million roadwork project on Sept. 16 from Mile Markers 11.3 to 14.6, and 15.2 to 15.9. The work should be done in five months.
It includes: repaving and restriping, upgrading signs, extending turn lanes and widening shoulders for bicycle access. One lane at a time will be closed at various times between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday mornings, FDOT says.
